Grooming Requirements

Aussiechons are low shedding dogs. They are easy to maintain as they do not require an extensive brushing regime. One weekly brushing is all they need to ensure they have nice, shiny coats with no matting. An occasional bath once a month can also be done to ensure they have nice, clean skin with healthy coats. Trimming the nails, hair on the underside of the paws, and ears also needs to be done on a regular basis, preferably after every bath.

Adult Aussiechon dogs, as well as young puppies, are prone to dental problems and can benefit greatly from having their teeth brushed. Daily brushing with only dog-approved toothpaste can work wonders for them. It is very important to ensure all the products used during Aussiechon grooming are dog-specific and approved by the veterinarian.

Exercise Needs

Aussiechons are moderately active dogs. They love going for long walks, playing at dog parks, playing games with other dogs, and engaging in any fun activities they can do outdoors with their owners. They need to be taken for two or three walks per day to ensure they stay healthy and fit. Playing with them at home using interactive dog toys is another way to keep them physically and mentally stimulated. Since they are naturally agile dogs, they need mental stimulation through games such as puzzles and treat hunts to keep them mentally stimulated and prevent boredom.

History

The Aussiechon is a cross between a Miniature Australian Shepherd and a Bichon Frise. It is a new, rare, and sought-after designer dog breed that was first bred in the United States a little more than 20 years ago. These dogs have gained popularity worldwide due to their fun-loving attitude, loyalty, intelligence, and adorable fluffy appearance. As a designer dog breed, the Aussiechon is extremely young in breed history.

In order to understand the characteristics of the new Aussiechon puppies, we should take a look at the history and characteristics of the parent breeds of the Aussiechon, the Miniature Australian Shepherd and the Bichon Frise.

The Australian Shepherd dog breed is a hardworking, athletic dog that was bred in the United States in the 1800s. It is believed that the breed was bred from the Australian Shepherd, also known as Shepherd-type dogs, that were brought to the United States from Australia to be used as sheep herding dogs in the western United States. Once the Australian Shepherd dogs were in the United States, they became extremely popular with cowboys and rodeo enthusiasts, and soon they became the most popular companion pet in the western United States.

In the 1960s, Australian Shepherds were crossed with Miniature Australian Shepherds to reduce their size to a Miniature Australian Shepherd. This made them easier to manage. Australian Shepherds and Miniature Australian Shepherds have now become famous movie stars in western films, winners in dog sports competitions, and treasured pet dogs around the world. In addition, they have also become parent dogs to various designer puppies such as Mini Aussiedoodle (a combination of Mini Aussie and Mini Poodle), Augi (a combination of Mini Aussie and Pembroke Corgi), Baussie (a combination of Mini Aussie and Boston Terrier), and Aussie (a combination of Mini Australian Shepherd and Cocker Spaniel).

The Bichon Frise dog breed has its origin in the 14th century on Tenerife, which is the largest of the Canary Islands. A dog of regal bearing and demeanor, the Bichon Frise has been raised as a treasured pet dog in the lap of luxury among Spanish, Italian, and French royalty. These treasured pet dogs were greatly loved for their beauty and were also depicted in paintings alongside their royalty owners.

The Frise Bichons were given their name “Bichon a Poil Frise – Bichon with curly hair” in France in 1933. Bichon Frise puppies owe their popularity across the globe to their pleasant disposition and cute marshmallow looks. Just like the Mini Australian Shepherd dog breed, the Bichon Frise is also a parent to a number of mixed breeds of puppies such as Pomachon (Pomeranian-Bichon Frise mix), Cavachon (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel-Bichon Frise mix), and Yorkie Chon (Yorkshire Terrier-Bichon Frise mix).
