History
The Pomsky, which is also known as the Pomeranian Husky or the Husky Pom, is a new, rare, and very popular hybrid dog breed. The Pomsky was first bred in the United States in 2009. The Pomsky is a cross between a purebred Pomeranian and a purebred Siberian Husky. The reason for the popularity of the Pomsky worldwide is its wolf-like look, friendly nature, and loyal character. As a recent hybrid dog breed, the Pomsky does not have a long history. Let’s take a look at the history of the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky, the parent breeds of the Pomsky.
The Pomeranian, also known as the Pom or Loulou de Pomeranie, is the smallest of the ancient Spitz family of dogs. The Spitz is an Arctic sled dog and is a hardworking, strong, and rugged dog of much larger size. The Pomeranian ancestor migrated from the Arctic to Pomerania, which is part of Poland and Germany, and there it was bred to a smaller size and renamed the Pomeranian. From Pomerania to the rest of the world and the United States, the Pomeranian would live a luxurious life as a companion pet of aristocrats, nobles, and royalty. Queen Victoria, who was a great fan of the Pomeranian and had them as pets, during her reign managed to breed the Pomeranian to half its original size and is the reason for the small-sized cute Pomeranian of today.
The Siberian Husky is one of the oldest dog breeds in the world. In fact, it is the oldest. This is a strong and hardy working dog from Siberia. The Siberian Husky was domesticated by the Chukchi tribe in Siberia as a guard dog, as a companion pet, and as a sled dog. The Siberian Huskies were brought to Alaska to participate in sled racing. Winning race after race, the Siberian Huskies soon gained public attention. From Alaska, the Huskies soon spread to the entire world as both loving pets and strong working dogs. Today, the Siberian Husky is the most popular breed in North America. Catch them as the stars of movies and TV shows, and as champions in dog shows and sports.
Pomsky puppies are also bred through different generations such as F1, F1B, and F2. This is done for better control over the size of the puppies, their coat color, and physical characteristics. F1 Pomsky puppies are obtained by mating a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky dog. F1b Pomsky puppies are obtained by backbreeding an F1 Pomsky puppy with a Pomeranian dog. All Pomeranian husky mixes are equally adorable.
